At this year’s assessment of bread, bakery and fine bakery wares, pasta, cookies and fresh desserts, which takes place under the auspices of the Bakery Section at the Chamber of Agricultural and Food Enterprises, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, Žito received a record 61 awards for product excellence, which is more than all other Slovenian bakery companies.

Žito receives a record 61 excellence awards for bread, bakery products and pasta quality

At this year’s 20th jubilee assessment of bread, bakery and fine bakery wares, pasta, cookies and fresh desserts, which takes place under the auspices of the Bakery Section at the Chamber of Agricultural and Food Enterprises, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, Žito received a record 61 awards for product excellence, which is more than all other Slovenian bakery companies.

The quality of Žito’s products was confirmed with 56 golden awards for bread, bakery wares and fine bakery wares as well as 5 golden awards for pasta. The awards are given by an independent committee composed of experts in the bakery field, who assess anonymous products on a special assessment scale. They assess the appearance, the qualities of the crust and the centre as well as smell and taste.

“We are happy and proud that Žito has received the highest number of awards so far at the jubilee assessment of bread, bakery products and pasta. These 61 awards reflect our commitment to quality and the result of the whole year effort and teamwork of everyone participating in the development and preparation of our excellent products. Our new innovative gluten-free bread in three flavours were also among the awarded products. Together with this year’s awards, Žito has received 401 golden awards for product excellence since the beginning of the assessments. In addition to the acknowledgement by experts, these awards also signify approval from the consumers, who appreciate our effort and dedication in preparing excellent products,” emphasized Janez Bojc, the CEO of Žito and the president of the Bakery Section at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia at this year’s ceremony. He added: “For over 70 years, Žito has been designing top products based on the rich Slovenian bread tradition and by using old cereals as well as technologies with new knowledge and modern solutions. Our unique recipes are brought to life every day by dedicated bakers, who put their hearts and souls into creating bread and bakery wares, and which are available daily on the stores’ shelves and in consumers’ homes.”

The good reputation of top Žito products extends beyond the Slovenian borders. Their bread and bakery products can be enjoyed by consumers in 25 countries to which Žito exports its delicacies. They have thus become an important ambassador of Slovenian tradition and bread heritage around the world. The Slovenian presidency of the International Association of Plant Bakeries additionally contributes to the recognition of bakery products. Janez Bojc has been presiding over the International Association of Plant Bakeries since last year, and in May 2021 in Bled, he is hosting the largest international expert congress in the bakery sector.
